William Gallas agrees with Alan Shearer on five subs debate amid Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea concern

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has said that he enjoyed the busy festive schedule as a player amid the ongoing debate about player welfare and the five substitutions rule.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel came under intense scrutiny from BBC pundit and former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer after the German was vocal in expressing his concerns over the impact on players’ physical and mental wellbeing caused by the busy festive schedule.

Tuchel is in favour of bringing back the rule that allows managers to bring on five substitutes during a game, in a bid to help avoid player burnout due to the ongoing Covid crisis and to help reduce injury problems, with Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante the latest players to join Chelsea’s injury list after the Aston Villa win.
