Arsenal can move above West Ham with a win against Wolves on Thursday night, with the Gunners hoping to continue their unbeaten run in February.
The Gunners beat Wolves 1-0 earlier this month at Molineux with Gabriel’s goal proving to be the difference, a game in which fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli was controversially sent off after picking up two bookings in the same phase of play. Martinelli returns from suspension for the reverse fixture against Bruno Lage’s side but is expected to start from the bench after Emile Smith Rowe’s strong performance in the 2-1 win against Brentford.
Mikel Arteta revealed in his press conference that there are no new injury concerns for the Gunners heading into the game on Thursday after the Spaniard welcomed back both Bernd Leno and Takehiro Tomiyasu into the matchday squad, following their recovery from Covid and injury respectively.
So, what line-ups will both teams select? And, what could the final score be?
We used FIFA 22 to get a score prediction for Arsenal versus Wolves on Thursday and this is what happened…
Arsenal vs Wolves score predicted by simulation
We used kick-off mode in FIFA 22, but didn’t select a team to control, we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a score prediction.
We predict that Arsenal could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Lacazette.
We predict that Wolves could set up in a 5-3-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: Sa; Semedo, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Marcal; Dendoncker, Neves, Moutinho; Podence, Jimenez.
Arsenal started the game as the stronger side with Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka causing Nelson Semedo and Marcal issues in defence, getting in behind multiple times within the opening 15 minutes.
Alexandre Lacazette had the first big chance of the game after he was found by Martin Odegaard on the edge of Wolves’ penalty box, but the Frenchman’s shot took a deflection off of Conor Coady and trickled through to Jose Sa in the visitors’ net.
Raul Jimenez threatened at the other end of the pitch with a powerful volley, but Aaron Ramsdale was able to produce a brilliant reaction save to keep the score level at 0-0 heading into half-time.
In the second half, Arteta’s side continued to press in the hope of finding an opening goal but this left them exposed defensively on the counter-attack, with Daniel Podence’s pace and Jimenez’s positioning proving to be an issue, but Tomiyasu’s ability to slot in as a third centre-back at times helped Ben White and Gabriel cope with the pressure.
Smith Rowe came close to putting the hosts 1-0 up with 20 minutes left to play, but his whipped effort from the edge of the box after a brilliant run came crashing back off of the woodwork, with Coady able to clear the danger as Lacazette looked to pounce on the rebound.
Wolves responded at the other end as substitute Pedro Neto hit the post after he beat Tierney for pace and looked to slot the ball into the far corner.
Ramsdale was crucial in stopping the Portuguese winger from putting Wolves 1-0 up as he was able to get down to his right quickly to tip the ball away and onto the post, with Tomiyasu clearing the ball out for a goal kick after coming under pressure from Jimenez on the rebound.
In the end, neither side were able to break the deadlock as both settled for a point in a crucial game in the race for Champions League qualification.
FIFA 22 predicted final score: Arsenal 0-0 Wolves
Here are the full-time match stats.
FIFA 22 predicts that Arsenal could start off as the better team but might find it hard to find a breakthrough against a defensively solid Wolves side.
The Gunners could put in a solid defensive display though with Tomiyasu and Ramsdale impressing at the back, coping with Wolves on the counter-attack as both sides had to settle for a point in the hunt for a top-four spot, which could see Arsenal moving above West Ham into fifth with two games in hand on Manchester United in fourth.
