UCL Preview: Villarreal vs Man Utd (current form, team news and predictions)

Manchester United travel to Spain to face Villarreal in their first game since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got fired and they’d be looking to bounce back from their recent woes under new interim coach Michael Carrick.

Villarreal meanwhile would be looking for an improved performance from the 1-1 draw when both sides met earlier in the second group game.

Current Form:

Villarreal have been in a quite inconsistent run of form recently. Though, their last UCL game was a win over Young Boys FC, they have won two, drawn two and lost five in their last five games and they head into this one off the back of a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo in La Liga over the weekend.

Man Utd meanwhile have been on a very terrible run of form. The Red devils have won just two games in all competitions since they hosted Villarreal at Old Trafford in the second group game. They head into this one following an abysmal 4-1 defeat away to Watford on Saturday.

Team News:

Villarreal have just one injury issue heading into this one as Spanish striker Gerrard Moreno is still out with a hamstring injury he picked up in October.

Manchester United on the other hand would be without Paul Pogba who remains sidelined following a knee injury he picked while on international duty with France and his compatriot Raphael Varane is still recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up in the last champions league game against Atalanta.

Edison Cavani is also unavailable as he continues to recover from a tendon injury alongside Mason Greenwood who has tested positive for Covid-19 while Luke Shaw is a doubt following the concussion he suffered against Watford.

Predicted Villarreal xi: Asenjo; Moreno, Torres, R. Albiol, Aurier; Coquelin, Capoue; Danjuma, Parejo, Chukwueze; Dia

Predicted Man Utd xi: De Gea; Telles, Maguire, Lindelof, Wan-Bisakka; Fred, Van De Beek; Rashford, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo

There’s always a response when a manager gets sacked and with the complexion of their champions league group I expect Man Utd to edge this one 2-1 and fo top of their group.
