It was no less than Graham Potter’s side deserved in many respects but the Blues will feel they had enough opportunities to extend their lead and win the game.
Nevertheless, we take a look at the moments you might have missed at Stamford Bridge below:
Romelu Lukaku’s instructions to Reece James
The Blues defender lined up on the opposite flank to usual against Brighton and during the warm ups it seemed like his Belgian teammate was giving him some in depth instructions.
Lukaku could be seen gesturing and showing how he would shape his body to receive the ball or make a run, almost coaching James through his options.
Unfortunately, Jame was unable to foray forward much during his brief time on the pitch. His first attempt at flying up the pitch saw him cut onto his right foot and direct an early cross into the arms of Robert Sanchez.
His second drive forward saw him head infield to be tackled by Yves Bissouma. The challenge ultimately left the 22-year-old requiring to be substituted with a hamstring injury. James was seen leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches following the game.
Why Trevoch Chalobah laughed at N’Golo Kante
So often, during the warm ups is where you can really see the elite quality of Premier League footballers.
Without the pressure of match intensity, players will play one-touch football to the hearts content, bring down any ball with almost impossible ease and repeatedly find the back of the net. It can be a joy to behold.
N’Golo Kante will be happy to forget his before the Brighton match.
The Frenchman was among Chelsea’s substitutes passing the ball ahead of the clash and produced one of the worst passes Stamford Bridge has seen. Chalobah could only stand and laugh as the ball went into Brighton’s five-on-five in the opposite half of the pitch.
Kante once again proved how influential he can be in Chelsea’s midfield when he entered the pitch however.
Mason Mount angers Thomas Tuchel
It didn’t take Thomas Tuchel long to show some frustration against Brighton. In the opening minutes the German coach already had his hands on his head before throwing them down with vigour.
Mason Mount found himself in a good position entering the Seagulls box after a quick break from the Blues and good work from Lukaku. The former Derby loanee could only cut his pass across the area straight to a Brighton body much to the displeasure of his boss.
Tuchel did clap the attack once he regained his composure but as Mount tried to claim the ball back when Chelsea pressed high, misfortune fell again.
Mount eventually gave away a soft free kick on Bissouma and Tuchel could only turn around in disgust.
That anger, was little compared to the frustration Tuchel displayed in his press conference.
