Thomas Tuchel reiterates stance on Lukaku ahead of another redemption chance

After the controversial interview that was released by Sky Sports about two weeks ago, Romelu Lukaku has served his punishment and is now back into the fold for Chelsea again.

After missing the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on the 2nd of January, Lukaku returned to the Chelsea lineup against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg last week but failed to make any spectacular impact. His 45 minutes performance against Chesterfield in the FA Cup on Saturday was however capped off with a goal and the Belgian would be looking to build on that momentum as Chelsea square up tonight against Tottenham in the second and last installment of the Carabao Cup semi-final tonight.

One of the highlights of the controversial comments made by Lukaku in the infamous interview from two weeks ago was his questioning of coach Thomas Tuchel’s tactics and how the German has chosen to play in a system that does not amplify his strengths.

Reinventing Lukaku to suit Chelsea’s pattern of play could be an option for Thomas Tuchel but the Chelsea boss has stated that that would not happen as he believes the €100 million man can still find his mojo playing the way he’s always played.

Thomas Tuchel: “We will not reinvent his style or the player. He can simply be Romelu and then we are all fine and he will score because this is what he always does. Nothing helps more than goals with strikers.”

Thomas Tuchel: “There is no talk, no video that can build up the same trust, the same feeling as a goal. It is not important if it is a beautiful goal or just a normal one, they need to put the ball over the line, nothing helps more than that.”

Thomas Tuchel has no doubt about Lukaku’s strengths and the gaffer is optimistic that the 28-year old would play a pivotal role in Chelsea’s successes this season.
