It’s been a rollercoaster past few months for Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger as both could be forced to path ways next summer if certain demands are not met.

Antonio Rudiger, one of Chelsea’s best players and currently one of the best defenders in Europe is in the final year of his contract and talks over an extension are currently at a stale mate as so far, there’s still no consensus ad idem between both parties.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has always made his stance clear on the situation as the German wants his compatriot to stay at the club beyond next summer. A stance he reiterated following Rudiger’s performance against Leicester City on Saturday where he scored the opener and was yet again solid at the back in the Blues’ 3-0 win.

Thomas Tuchel: “For me, he [Rudiger] is a big competitor and he is exactly the right spot. He is in the most competitive league and at a club where winning matters, so let’s be a bit patient and hopefully we have a happy end.”

Speaking further on the contract situation, Tuchel stated that Rudiger is nevertheless fully committed to Chelsea, confirming earlier reports that the defender’s first choice would be to remain at the club.

Thomas Tuchel: “It can happen these days but it does not effect his [Rudiger’s] mentality, it doesn’t affect his quality, it doesn’t effect his behaviour.”

Thomas Tuchel: “He [Rudiger] is fully committed to Chelsea right now and I am absolutely sure he feels the trust, respect and love from the club and spectators.”

Antonio Rudiger is currently holding out for an improved Chelsea contract worth nothing less than £200k per week. Meanwhile, Chelsea are offering less.
