The contract situation of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger continues to linger as both player are still yet to reach a consensus ad idem on a new deal.
Rudiger’s contract expires next summer and he could well be on his way out of the club next season if a new deal is not agreed and the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are reportedly lurking and ready to pounce.
The 28-year old German defender has been a key player for Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel arrived at the helm earlier this year as he was one of the protagonists in Chelsea’s Champions League and Super Cup triumph some months ago.
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is no doubt aware of Rudiger’s importance at Chelsea and he’s never minced words on that
“We absolutely accept and are fully aware of the importance of Toni [Rudiger] and the role that he’s playing on and off the pitch. There is no doubt about that.” Tuchel told the Chelsea website.
The German gaffer also spoke about Rudiger’s lingering contract situation and according to him, ‘a bit of patience’ is needed.
“It’s true that nobody is bigger than the club and this is a team effort and a strong club.”
“It’s not only about Toni [Rudiger] and I mean that in the best way because we know what he’s doing and we’re fully aware of it. In the end, we need a bit of patience. I have no update right now.”
Rudiger is set to feature for Chelsea today after getting a rest when Chelsea played Zenit in the champions league in midweek and Tuchel says the centre-back is in good condition to face Leeds.
