Thomas Tuchel issues Kai Havertz verdict amidst current expectations at Chelsea

22-year old German star, Kai Havertz has had to fill in at the number 9 role for Chelsea this season following injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

The former Bayer Leverkusen starlet has been excellent of late and has scored three times for Chelsea this season including the 1-1 draw against Burnley before the international break. The forward was also on form for Germany in the international break as he got in the goals for the Die Manschafft.

Havertz joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen at the start of last season in a record £80 million deal. The then 21-year old struggled to adapt in his first few months in England and this gave rise to lots of criticisms from different angles but Havertz had the last laugh when he scored the solitary goal against Man City that gave Chelsea the Uefa Champions League Trophy in May.

Kai Havertz is now growing into a very important player at Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel seems to have great belief in the youngster.

“He has a good character, good attitude, took the right step in the Premier League and club like Chelsea. Time is simply needed. He is still young, he is very ambitious, so we want the best of him.” The German coach said in his press conference earlier today.

“But at the same time he is only 22, so there are years to come. If he stays to fight, like he is now, there will be goals, assists under his belt, this is sure. I have no doubt.”

Thomas Tuchel also sounded quite metaphorical in talking about Havertz as according to him; “Grass is not growing faster if you pull it. It takes its time. He’s still young and very ambitious.”
