Thomas Tuchel issues honest verdict on Chelsea’s title ambitions after disappointing draw vs Brighton

Chelsea suffered yet another blow to their premier league title ambitions as a late Danny Welbeck equalizer endured Brighton left Stamford Bridge with a share of the spoils last night.

The 1-1 draw now means Chelsea are eight points behind league leaders Man City.

Chelsea’s season have also been hampered by injuries and Covid-19 and last night, Thomas Tuchel was forced into making two early substitutions as Reece James and Andreas Christensen added to the injury list.

The current situation has casted doubts on the Blues’ title ambitions and Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel was brutally honest when answering the question on whether his team are still in the title race.

Thomas Tuchel: “How should we be in it [title race]? We have seven Covid cases. We have five or six players out for six or more weeks. How should we compete in a title race?”

Thomas Tuchel: “Everyone else who has a full squad, everybody in training has the full power to come through this league. We would be stupid to think we can do it out of Covid and injuries.”

Thomas Tuchel: “It was clear we would struggle, we have simply way too many players with who we don’t know what we can demand. We have long injuries, they come from Covid, I simply don’t know what they are capable of doing.”
