Thomas Tuchel issues disclaimer as he drops major Saúl hint ahead of Watford clash

Watford host Chelsea tonight at Vicarage Road with the Blues looking for a win that would ensure their stay at the top of the premier league table.

The Blues might not find it easy as they’re set to be without some key players for the trip to Watford. N’golo Kanté, Matteo Kovacic and Ben Chilwell are all out while Jorginho, Reece James and Timo Werner are all doubts for tonight. Chelsea are therefore short in midfield leaving Loftus-Cheek and Saúl Niguez as the only natural central midfield options in the squad. The latter has not had the much expected loan spell at Chelsea after joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer and tonight might just present an opportunity for the Spaniard to get going, and Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is quite optimistic that could be the case.

Thomas Tuchel: “In the moment, where we have injured players in the midfield, even Jorgi doubtful for tomorrow, it’s the moment for him [Saúl] to be ready and I have the feeling since many days that he is ready and can show what he wants to show.”

Thomas Tuchel also debunked rumours on Saúl being a club signing rather than a player he really wanted.

Addressing those rumours, Tuchel responded: “A club signing?! We don’t do this. Until now we didn’t do club signings and coach’s signings”

We do signings because we decide together because we believe it’s a good pick and a good addition to the squad, and this was exactly the case”.
