Thomas Tuchel faces left wing-back dilemma as key decision lingers

Chelsea are currently in need of a left wing-back to cover for the injured Ben Chilwell who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Blues have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Everton’s Lucas Digne who was previously linked with the club as the Toffees insistence on a permanent deal proved a stumbling block.

Recalling Italian left-back Emerson Palmieri from his loan spell at Lyon is reportedly the first option for the Blues but the French club have rejected two approaches from Chelsea already as Emerson’s loan deal was said to not include a clause that allows for a recall.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are currently in talks with Olympique Lyonnaise over Emerson’s recall but would have to pay a compensation fee due to Lyon’s stance on the matter.

Emerson is coach Thomas Tuchel’s first choice but the Fabri however revealed that Chelsea have a ‘plan B’ if the bid to recall the Italy international fails to materialize.

A left-back needs to join Chelsea before the end of January as Thomas Tuchel has already been put in a desperate situation heading with only Marcos Alonso as the natural left wing-back option heading into the next few games.
