The surprise former Arsenal boss in the frame to replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle

Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery is a surprise candidate that Amanda Staveley and her team are targeting when Steve Bruce’s tenure at Newcastle ends.

The sleeping giants of the Premier League are wasting no time announcing their arrival to the big six in a move that does not come as much of a surprise to many as Staveley warned of this in her first interview.

“Newcastle United deserves to be top of the Premier League. We want to get there. It will take time, but we will get there,” Staveley said to Sky Sports.

“We’re proud to be part of the Premier League. It’s an incredibly competitive league, which we love. Premier League football is the best in the world, and Newcastle United is the best team in the world.

“We want to see it get those trophies, obviously. At top of the Premier League, in Europe, but to get trophies means patience, investment, time. We want everybody to work with us to build the club towards what it needs to be.”

With their transfer target list seemingly consisting of world-class quality talent, all that is needed now is a manager of the same calibre to come in and get on with the project in hand.

Initially, it looked like it could be a two-horse race between ex-Chelsea managers Frank Lampard and Antonio Conte for the position but a new name has emerged that will be of a surprising nature to the Arsenal faithful.
