Team News: Thomas Tuchel delivers fitness updates on four Chelsea players ahead of champions league trip to Lille

Chelsea travel to France to face Lille in the second leg of the Uefa Champions League round of 16.

After an impressive 2-0 win in the first leg at Stamford Bridge the Blues would be looking to put their off field issues behind them and continue their recent form which has seen them win three games on the bounce.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has been speaking to the media in a pre-match conference ahead of his side’s trip to Lille and he has delivered a fitness update as regards some players who have missed the last few games due to injury and Covid.

Marcos Alonso who recently recovered from Covid is now fit to start alongside Cesar Azpilicueta was subbed off at halftime with an illness in the 3-1 win over Norwich last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi who have both been out injured are still a doubt with Tuchel admitting that it would be a ‘tight race’ to have both players back for the game against Lille.

Thomas Tuchel: “Marcos and Azpi is ready to start. We will try to have them [James & Hudson-Odoi] later in training, but it will be a very, very tight race. We will take decision after training.”

Ben Chilwell remains the only Chelsea player who is not yet close to full fitness.
