Ross Barkley reveals key attribute that sets Tuchel apart from other managers

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has witnessed somewhat of a turnaround in his Chelsea career. After an unfruitful loan spell at Aston Villa last season, no one would have expected to ever see Ross Barkley in a Chelsea shirt again but he currently finds himself contending for spots in Thomas Tuchel’s starting xi.

The Englishman looked ready to leave Chelsea in the summer but the absence of concrete offers meant he had to stay despite being way behind on Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order.

Barkley has nevertheless been given a few chances to impress this season, chances which he took wholeheartedly in games against Southampton and Burnley and the former Everton wonderkid is now prime to get more involved following Thomas Tuchel’s clean slate.

The midfielder is obviously grateful and he’s revealed his admiration for Tuchel’s meritocracy, an attribute that sets Tuchel apart from other managers.

Ross Barkley: “When you train under this manager he takes notice and he rewards you, which I’d heard from the lads who worked with him last season before I came back. It is great because some managers aren’t necessarily like that.”

Ross Barkley: “If you train well he does reward you, but not in a sense that you get rewarded just for training well, you’ve got to perform when you get the chance as well.”

Ross Barkley had his first Premier League start of the season against Burnley before the international break and the Chelsea number 18 also expressed his delight on getting the opportunity to impress.

Ross Barkley: “I felt like I deserved it [starting against Burnley] after coming on and affecting the game and the manager came out and said that he felt like I deserved it, so it’s good to know that he sees that as well.”

Speaking further on the topic, Barkley told the Chelsea website that he’s ready to keep doing what he’s been doing in training and helping the team out and being ready whenever he gets his chance.
