The Balon d’or recognizes the best and most outstanding players in every year and the winner of this year’s edition will be announced later this month.
The most popular contenders are Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, N’golo Kanté and Jorginho, and BT Sport pundit, Rio Ferdinand has shared his opinion on the nominees.
According to the former Man Utd degender, Jorginho’s nomination is baffling as he wasn’t the best player in the team’s he played for last season.
Rio Ferdinand: “The Jorginho one [Ballon d’Or] baffles me, he’s not the best player at Chelsea and he’s not the best with Italy either.
Rio Ferdinand: “He’s a very good player don’t get me wrong, but I don’t see how he gets on the list.”
Recall that Jorginho had a stellar 2020/21 season as he helped Chelsea to a champions league triumph in May and also Italy to the Euros two months later and the midfielder was also in both competitions’ teams of the tournaments.
Jorginho also completed the European treble by winning the Uefa Super Cup in August and he was also named Uefa Player of the Year in September.
