RAY PARLOUR WOULD ‘LOVE TO SEE’ ARSENAL GAMBLE ON SIGNING 26-YEAR-OlD BRENTFORD STRIKER

Speaking to the Design Museum to celebrate the launch of its new exhibition, Football: Designing the Beautiful Game, Ray Parlour has been chatting about Arsenal’s pursuit of a new striker and Ivan Toney.

Arsenal are desperate for a new centre-forward this summer. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts are up, and the London club don’t have any other options.

Mikel Arteta’s side will have to dip into the market, and Parlour would love to see his former side take a punt on Ivan Toney from Brentford.

WHAT’S BEEN SAID?

Parlour says that he’d like Arsenal to bring Toney in.

I’d love to see Arsenal take a gamble on Ivan Toney. I think he’s a good young striker who has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Premier League with Brentford. I’d expect him to only get better as he moves towards his peak years and he’s also a nailed-on penalty taker which we don’t have now that Aubameyang has left the club,” Parlour said.

Ivan Toney could be worth a gamble, especially if Brentford go down.

No, we’re not saying that Toney should be Arsenal’s first-choice centre-forward. After all, they want to be challenging for major honours in the coming years, but as a depth option, they could do a lot worse.

Toney has 11 Premier League goals to his name this term – just one fewer than Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo, so he really isn’t a bad shout for Arsenal.

The Gunners could do a lot worse than listening to Parlour’s advice.
