Hello and welcome to football.london’s live Arsenal blog on Monday!
We enter another day of the 2022 summer transfer window and things continue to heat up. The Gunners appear close to confirming the signings of Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira in the coming weeks, with both their current clubs releasing statements about agreeing a bid with Arsenal.
Outside of the pair, Mikel Arteta and Edu will be busy at work looking towards more transfer targets, with the issue of squad depth and lack of strikers still at hand. A number of high-profile players continue to be linked with a move to the Emirates, as the Spaniard looks to replicate last summer, where he spent over £140million refreshing his squad.
With that in mind, sit back and let football.london keep you posted with the latest from the Emirates Stadium.
More Raphinha news
Arsenal have made ‘a great offer’ to sign Leeds star Raphinha, according to Spanish journalist Ruben Uria.
He also claims that Barcelona have ‘disappeared’ from the race to sign the Brazilian.
Major Raphinha twist
Leeds United winger Raphinha is ‘very close’ to signing for Arsenal, according to Goal of Brazil.
Their report claims that the player won’t continue to wait for Barcelona and hopes to complete a move to the Gunners this week.
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has endorsed Arsenal’s move for Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.
“He’s an upgrade for Arsenal,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport. “He’s a massive upgrade for Arsenal. Eddie Nketiah, is he the one to pin your hat on to score the goals which raises the level for Arsenal? Maybe he gets them into the Champions League.
“If Arsenal sign Gabriel Jesus, then that’s a big statement signing. You are sounding like you (speaking to an Arsenal fan) that you have big doubts over Jesus.
“I am not sure Guardiola doesn’t fancy him. He rotates and doesn’t play him centre-forward. He used him off the right-hand side, at times.”
Nuno Lobo, a former presidential candidate at Porto, has claimed that Arsenal got a bargain by agreeing on a £34million deal for Fabio Vieira.
“He is one of the best players at FC Porto and leaving for this fee is a bad deal,” Lobo told Bola Branca..
“We are talking about one of the gems of FC Porto, one of the players who came from our academy. The DNA of FC Porto. We lost him. It’s another piece of business that I don’t understand.
“We are talking about ridiculous values for players who represent and areFC Porto. They are from our academy and we are letting them go for unbelievable fees.”
