Ralf Ragnick hints on clean slate for Man Utd outcast ahead of UCL clash vs Young Boys

Manchester United’s new manager Ralf Ragnick has quite made a good first impression in his first few days in charge of the Club and Sunday’s premier league victory against Crystal Palace has surely lifted the spirit at Old Trafford.

Ragnick is now faced with the task of preparing his team for the visit of Young Boys FC in their last champions league group game on Wednesday.

The game against Young Boys is more like a dead rubber from a Man Utd perspective as the Red devils had their status as group winners sealed a couple of weeks ago with a 2-0 victory over Villareal. Hence, Ragnick is expected to do a lot of rotation to his starting xi on Wednesday.

The German tactician has hinted on starting some fringe players and he’s explained that long forgotten centre-back Phil Jones could have been in contention but unfortunately, the Englishman is not registered in Man United’s Uefa Champions League squad.

Ralf Rangnick: “We can only play players who are in the UCL list [against Young Boys]. For example, Phil Jones, whom I would love to give game-time on Wednesday after his long-term injury, unfortunately, he is not on the list.”

Phil Jones made his return from a long-term injury at the start of the season but is still yet to make a competitive appearance for the Man Utd first team this season.

Jones though made a return to the Man Utd matchday squad on the 28th of November against Chelsea for the first time in 650 days and he still hasn’t made a competitive appearance in 680 days but Ralf Ragnick’s arrival at the theatre of dreams could well mean a clean slate for the defender.
