Manchester United

PL Preview: Man Utd vs Man City (current form, team news, head to head and predictions)

Once again it’s that game we’re always excited about. It’s the Manchester derby! The clash between the two main gladiators of Manchester is certainly one that would keep the spectators rooted to their seats. Pure footballing entertainment it’s been in recent times.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would be looking to keep the momentum after returning to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Tottenham last week while Pep Guardiola’s team would be keen on bouncing back from a shocking 2 nil defeat to Crystal Palace in their last Premier League game .

Man Utd beat Tottenham in their last premier league game but that was the Red devils only win in their last 3 games as they had suffered back to back premier league losses against Leicester City and Liverpool.

On the other hand, Man City’s shock defeat in the hands of Crystal Palace was their only defeat in the last 3 games as they had beaten both Burnley and Brighton prior to Crystal Palace’s arrival at the Etihad.

In Europe, both sides haven’t faired badly. Man Utd head into today’s fixture off the back of a hard fought 2-2 draw away at Italian side Atalanta on Tuesday while Man City comprehensively beat Club Brugge 4-1 on Wednesday.

Team News:

French defender Raphael Varane has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury he picked up in midweek. The centre-back is currently the only injury concern for Man Utd as Victor Lindelof who was missing in action in midweek is expected to return for the Red devils

Man City coach Pep Guardiola in his press conference yesterday expressed doubts over the fitness of right-back Kyle Walker for the short trip to Old Trafford and the Englishman would have to be assessed before the game.

Man Utd Predicted xi: De Gea; Maguire, Bailly, Lindelof; Wan-Bisakka, McTominay, Fred, Shaw; Bruno Fernandes, Ronaldo, Cavani

Man City Predicted xi: Ederson; Zinchenko, Laporte, Dias, Cancelo; Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva; Mahrez, Jesus, Grealish

Head to Head:

Man Utd have the superior head to head record in this fixture. In 48 meetings, the Red devils have beaten the Cityzens 24 times with the blue side of Manchester having just 15 victories. This fixture has seen only 9 draws out in the 48 games between both sides.

Man Utd also have also enjoyed the upper hand in recent fixtures winning 2 of their last 3 meetings with Man City and these last 3 meetings includes a goalless draw which means Man City have failed to beat Man Utd in their most recent encounters.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains unbeaten in the last 4 league games vs City but Pep Guardiola is unbeaten in the last two away trips to Old Trafford. So expect a cracker.

Overall, Man Utd have been below par this season. Compared to Man City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man Utd have been quite poor. Even though it’s just 3 points that separate both sides on the premier league log, anyone would put their money on City for a win tomorrow that would increase the gap to 6 points despite the fact that form is usually thrown out of the window in big games.

I therefore expect Man City to put their winless run against Man Utd to an end tomorrow. Man Utd 1-3 Man City.
