PL Preview: Chelsea vs Man Utd (team news, current form, head to head and predictions)

Chelsea host Manchester United in what promises to be an epic premier league clash this Sunday.

The Blues would be looking to maintain their stay at the top of the premier league table and Man Utd who sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager last Sunday would be hoping to find their mojo in the league once again as Michael Carrick takes charge of what would most likely be his second and final game as caretaker boss.

Matteo Kovacic and N’golo Kanté are also out with the former yet to recover from a hamstring injury he picked up before the international break while the latter picked up a knee injury against Juventus.

Kai Havertz meanwhile is fit to play against Man Utd after sitting out the mid-week game champions league game against Juventus and Romelu Lukaku could also make his first Chelsea appearance since his ankle injury in October.

Manchester United on the other are also expected to have some absentees. Captain Harry Maguire is suspended for this one after getting a red card last time out against Watford while Luke Shaw is a doubt and would have to go through concussion tests if he’s to be fit for the game.

Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba both remain sidelined with injuries and Brazilian midfielder Fred twisted his ankle against Villareal on Tuesday and is unlikely to feature. Edison Cavani’s involvement is also unlikely.

Current Form:

Both sides head into this one off the back of impressive champions league victories in mid-week but league form has been a complete opposite as far as Chelsea and Manchester United are concerned.

Chelsea have dropped points only once in their last five games which was in the 1-1 draw at home to Burnley before the international break. Hence, the Blues have won four in five games.

Man Utd on the other hand have won just once in their last five outings, losing the remaining four including their last game against Watford which ended in a 4-1 defeat.

Head to Head:

It is quite tight in terms of head to head between both sides. Chelsea have faced Man Utd 58 times in the premier league with Chelsea winning 18 times as against Man Utd’s 17 victories.

This fixture has witnessed more draws than victories for any of the sides with 23 draws in those 58 meetings.

Man Utd have a upper hand in recent years though. The Red devils are unbeatean against the Blues in seven games with Chelsea last beating Man Utd on the 5th of November 2017 in a game that ended 1-0 at Stamford Bridge

Man Utd would be expected to give a response following the sack of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager. Nevertheless, Chelsea are too good a side to be beaten easily. More so, the Blues have the home advantage.
