Chelsea host Liverpool in the premier league later tonight (4:30pm UK time)
Both sides would be very desperate for a win in order to close Man City’s 11 points gap at the summit.
It was a hard fought 1-1 draw for a 10 man Chelsea team the when they faced Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season and tonight’s game promises a lot of entertainment.
It’s no longer news that Ben Chilwell is out for the remainder of Chelsea’s season after a successful surgery on his ACL and it has also been confirmed that Reece James will be out for at least six weeks with a torn hamstring.
Chelsea are however boosted by the return of Timo Werner and Thiago Silva to training from Covid and hamstring issue respectively while Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to miss tonight’s game as he’s not yet back to training.
As per reports making the rounds, £100 million man Romelu Lukaku might be dropped from the Chelsea squad by Thomas Tuchel after the striker made some controversial comments in an interview which he had organized behind the club’s back.
Liverpool on the other hand will be without Andy Robertson who would be serving the last installment of his three match ban after picking up a red card in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham three matches ago.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will also be missing tonight’s game after testing positive for Covid-19 and his assistant will lead the team against Chelsea tonight.
Chelsea Predicted xi: Mendy; Rudiger, Silva, Azpilicueta; Hudson-Odoi, Kanté, Jorginho, Alonso; Pulisic, Havertz, Mount
Liverpool Predicted xi: Allison; Tsimikas, Van Dijk, Matip Alexander-Arnold; Fabinho Henderson, Keita; Mané, Jota, Salah
Chelsea head into this one off the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against Brighton on Wednesday and the Blues are unbeatean in their last five games, winning twice and drawing thrice.
Liverpool meanwhile lost their first match in five games on Tuesday when they fell to a one nil defeat away at the King Power and Jurgen Klopp’s charges have won thrice and drawn only once in this period.
Head to Head:
Liverpool have a slight upper hand in the head to head record. Chelsea have played Liverpool in the premier league 59 times and it is the Merseyside club that has had more wins (23) which is slightly higher than Chelsea’s 21 victories. This fixture has also recorded 15 draws.
Both sides have cancelled each other out in recent meetings. Chelsea and Liverpool have one win each in the last three meetings and they’ve also drawn once in this period.
Big games like this are difficult to predict but Liverpool in my opinion are odds on to win this one given their superior fire power upfront and the injury problems in Chelsea’s defence.
Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool
