PL Preview: Chelsea vs Leeds (team news, Current form, head to head and predictions)

Chelsea welcome Leeds United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening (3pm UK time) as they look to bounce back from a rude defeat away at West Ham last Saturday.

The Blues face a Leeds side that have struggled all season to meet up with the standards they did set for themselves and tomorrow represent another opportunity for Marcelo Bielsa’s charges to make a case for themselves in the premier league survival battle.

Team News:

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante are all out of tomorrow’s game.

Jorginho will be back for the game as he’s set to play through a back pain. Ruben Lofus-Cheek is also set to return after missing the midweek champions league game against Zenit.

It seems to be a tale of who has the worse injury crisis between Chelsea and Leeds as the Yorkshire club are currently without a handful of key players as they head into the weekend’s fixture.

Influential midfielder Kalvin Philips is ruled out after getting injured in the team’s last premier league game against Brentford on matchday 15, so are Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper.

Robin Koch is yet to return as an illness has kept him back after recovering from a pelvic injury while Spanish striker Rodrygo is required to spend some time on the sideline in a bid to fully recover from a bilateral heel pain he’s been struggling with for some time now.

Chelsea Predicted xi: Mendy; Rudiger, Silva, Azpilicueta; James, Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Alonso; Ziyech, Havertz, Werner

Leeds Predicted xi: Meslier; Firpo, Llorente, Struijk, Dallas; Forshaw, Shackleton, Harrison; Klich, James, Raphinha

Current Form:

The 3-2 loss away at West Ham was just Chelsea’s second loss of the season and their only loss in the last five premier league games, winning twice and drawing twice in this period. The Blues also head into this one off the back of a 3-3 champions league draw away at Zenit St. Petersburg in midweek.

Leeds meanwhile have won just once in their last five games, drawing three times and also losing once.

Head to Head:

The head to head is almost even in this fixture that has experienced literally an even number of draws compared to victories and defeats for both sides.

Chelsea have faced Leeds 26 times in the premier league and have won just nine while Leeds follow them closely with eight wins and both sides have had to share points nine times as well.

Chelsea have a clearer upper hand in recent games though, winning twice and drawing once in their last three premier league meetings with Leeds United.

Thomas Tuchel and Marcelo Bielsa definitely won’t have the wherewithal to field their respective best xis tomorrow but Chelsea seem to have a deeper squad overall and that is what might just give them the edge over Leeds.
