Some premier league clubs have been put on red alert as Chelsea are reportedly set to make a decision concerning the future of Ross Barkley in January.
After a season long loan at Aston Villa last season, Ross Barkley returned to Chelsea in the summer and efforts to secure another loan deal or a permanent move for the 27 year old proved futile. Hence, Barkley had to remain at Chelsea after the close of the transfer window despite being far behind in Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order of midfielders at the time.
The former Everton man has however gotten a lifeline after just few games into the season as injuries to some of Chelsea’s main midfield and attacking options have given him the opportunity to impress Thomas Tuchel.
Barkley started in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw vs Burnley on Saturday and was one of Chelsea’s best players on the pitch as he literally ran the show for the Blues.
According to TeamTalk, Chelsea are set to make a decision on whether to sell or keep Barkley in January and new premier league money bags Newcastle United are leading the chase for the midfielder.
Burnley have also been credited with an interest in Barkley as they have promised the Englishman enough game time that could help his aim of gate-crashing Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2022 world cup.
Leeds United and former club Everton are also interested in Barkley but would prefer a loan move with an option to buy for the midfielder in January.
Ross Barkley has 18 months left on his current contract with Chelsea. Hence, a decision on the player’s future would definitely be made soon.
