Since Mikel Arteta took over as Arsenal manager, Gabriel Martinelli has failed to establish a consistent run of games.
After remarkable performances in which he scored a brace against Liverpool at Anfield in 2019 and a fantastic solo effort against Chelsea in the same season, the Brazilian was dubbed a wonderkid by football legends Jurgen Klopp and Ronaldinho.
However, the 21-year-growth old’s has been hampered since then, as he has had to recover from a significant knee injury that has kept him out for nearly a year, and he has fallen out of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
With the youngster’s options restricted, it’s critical that he seizes any opportunity that presents itself, and one may be just around the corner.
Tom Canton, Bailey Keogh, and Umar Choudhry spoke on The Arsenal Way Agenda show ahead of the match against Leeds United to examine how Martinelli can break into Arteta’s starting eleven plans.
The discussion was kicked off by Keogh, who stated that it is now or never for the young Brazilian, and that he must make the most of the opportunities he is given in cup tournaments.
Martinelli received a much-needed 90-minute run out against Leeds yesterday night. Despite not having his finest game, he worked hard and appeared to be a threat at times.
However, it was clear that he needs more playing experience to hone his skills and reach his full potential. Hopefully, yesterday’s performance is a sign that his fitness is improving, and Arteta will start utilizing him in the side more frequently.
Martinelli is such a gifted player that it would be a pity if he was left in the dark at Arsenal.
