Mikel Arteta told he has a player ‘better than Varane’ after what Arsenal man did vs Leeds

Some Arsenal fans praised defender Ben White for his solitary performance against Leeds United in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie at the Emirates Stadium.

The 24-year-old defender, who joined the Gunners for about £50 million from Brighton in the summer transfer window, was the only one of Mikel Arteta’s back four to keep his spot in the north London derby against the Whites.

Since making the big-money deal to Arsenal, White has impressed for the Gunners, dividing many fans at the time, but with each passing game, the Gunners’ supporters appear to be warming up to the England international.

White has demonstrated his talent and comfort in possession on numerous occasions throughout his brief time with Arsenal, which was undoubtedly one of the main reasons why Arteta was desperate to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

White took up the ball from goalkeeper Bernd Leno at the back of the pitch during their match against Leeds, where he spent the 2019/20 season on loan, before storming up the pitch and winning a free-kick after a foul from Tyler Roberts around the halfway line.

Following the run, some Arsenal fans reacted to Twitter, with one even claiming he is “better” than Manchester United and France defender Varane.

After signing a five-year contract with the Gunners in the summer, Arteta suggested that White may become a “amazing” player for the club in the future.
Arsenal’s manager said: “We brought him in because we believe he has the potential to be exceptional.

“He still doesn’t have a lot of experience in the league. He has experience with Leeds and a year with Brighton, so he is not mature in that sense, but he has already demonstrated his traits and abilities.
