Marcos Alonso sends message to Chelsea debutants after Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Brentford

Chelsea beat Brentford 2-0 in the Carabao Cup quarter-final last night courtesy of a late Pontus Jansson own goal and a Jorginho penalty.

The Blues had three academy lads on show last night with Xavier Simons, Jude Soonsup-Bell and Harvey Vale all handed starts on their professional debut.

The trio all put on nice shifts before being replaced by Reece James, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount respectively and Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso has praised the impact of the U-23 players in Chelsea’s victory.

Marcos Alonso: “With the young lads we played a very good game. I am very happy.”

Marcos Alonso: “They had just two training sessions with us and they played an amazing game. I was trying to help the young lads today it’s a pleasure to help them and help the team.”

It was Chelsea’s first win with a cleansheet since the 4-0 victory over Juventus last month and the Blues will be hoping the victory serves as a motivation to get their season back on track after their recent dip in form.

Thomas Tuchel’s charges have been drawn against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final, a two-legged tie which Tuchel has described as a ‘good one for the fans.’
