Manchester United are in Moldova preparing for tonight’s Europa League match with Sherif from Tiraspol.
The home side won their first group stage match 3-0 against Omonia, while United lost 1-0 at home to Real Sociedad.
United will take this game seriously after losing their opening game. Erik ten Hag told the pre-match press conference: “Obviously, when you lose the first game you have to win the second one, so we know what our job is.”
The big news for the team is that Marcus Rashford misses the game through injury, joining Anthony Martial who failed to make the trip.
Predicted Lineup Manchester United vs Sheriff Tiraspol
Manchester United’s Premier League game against Leeds has been postponed this weekend, meaning there is no need to rest or rotate players who had a week’s rest, some even more, before this game.
David de Gea will start in goal, it is not up for debate as loanee Martin Dubravka is not in the traveling squad.
United are also expected to field Erik ten Hag’s first four, who have started the last four Premier League games.
This will see Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia at full back and Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at center back.
The English duo Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have to settle for a place on the bench.
The Ten Hag is also expected to stick with the midfield that has served him well of late, the trio of Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
Casemiro is the most likely option if Ten Hag replaces him, but McTominay will be fresher after missing the Real Sociedad game. The Brazilian played twice against Sheriff last season and will feature in the second half.
United’s attacking options are more limited due to injuries. Ten Hag refused to announce whether he would start Cristiano Ronaldo, telling a press conference to “wait until tomorrow” to find out.
Ronaldo is expected to start this match and has been called up due to Marcus Rashford’s injury. Otherwise I would have sat on the bench.
United’s number 7 is looking for his first goals of the season and will start with Jadon Sancho and Antony.
If Ten Hag doesn’t join Ronaldo, expect to see Anthony Elanga in his place in the top three. Alternative attacking options are youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Charlie McNeill.
