The 30-year-old star now has less than six months left to run on his contract with Mikel Arteta’s side and is unlikely to extend his stay in North London.

The Frenchman is therefore set to depart as a free agent at the end of the term, although the Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit means that Alexandre is now one of two senior number nines in the Arsenal ranks alongside youngster Eddie Nketiah.

According to a recent report from L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, Les Gones attempted to prise the player off the Gunners’ hands during the winter market but were frustrated in the pursuit of their former attacker.

The report adds that the club made contact with his entourage over a possible January move and have now pinpointed the soon-to-be free agent as a number one target for the summer window.

He struck 129 goals in 275 games for his former team before moving to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer market of 2017, recording 70 goals in 192 outings for the Premier League giants since.
