Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has reportedly returned to light training on grass ahead of a proposed return in January.
The left-back picked up an injury to his ACL when Chelsea played Juventus in the champions league last month and might require surgery in January and that might keep him out till the end of the season.
Ben Chilwell’s return to light training on grass is a huge boost for Chelsea and it means there is a possibility for him to make a return to action in January.
According to the Athletic though, It is too early to say whether Ben Chilwell will escape surgery as Chelsea always intended for the defender to return to some form of training before deciding whether to have surgery on his knee.
If Ben Chilwell eventually undergoes surgery in January, that would rule him out of action till the end of the season and it might also influence Chelsea’s activities in the January transfer market as the club could be forced to look for a short term competitor for Marcos Alonso at the left wing-back position.
It is not very clear yet whether Chelsea would want to sign a left-back in January as they have the options of either recalling Emerson Palmieri who is on loan at Olympique Lyonnaise or trying out other squad players at the left wing-back position.
