Chelsea were dealt a major blow when English left wing-back Ben Chilwell was ruled out for the rest of the season after having surgery on his injured ACL.
Chelsea obviously need a replacement in that position and the first replacement option is understood to be Italian left-back Emerson Palmieri who is currently on a season long loan at French club Olympique Lyonnaise but the Ligue 1 side has rejected Chelsea’s initial attempt of trying to recall the Italy international.
Talks are still ongoing with Lyon though and Everton’s Lucas Digne remains a viable option with the left-back available in the transfer market this January.
Digne has fallen out of favour with Toffees boss Rafa Benitez and this has alerted several top clubs in England and Chelsea are one of the several clubs interested.
The Blues are reportedly negotiating a loan deal with Everton for Lucas Digne and according to football journalist Andreas Korssund, the Frenchman favours a move to Stamford Bridge and has already agreed personal terms with the London club.
Chelsea will reportedly hold more talks with Everton regarding Lucas Digne this week and from an Everton perspective, it is said that the loan deal must include an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
