Latest on Chelsea sale as Saudi consortium register interest to make bid

It’s no longer a new piece of information that Russian billionaire Roman Abrahmovich has put Chelsea up for sale after the threats of sanctions from the UK government that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

The Chelsea owner is currently receiving bids and a lot of money bags have registered their interest so far with Abrahmovich being picky in choosing a potential buyer.

According to a story first reported by Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella, a Saudi private consortium led by Saudi Media have registered their interest yesterday to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich through Raine Group, a New York merchant bank that has been hired to find a buyer for the club.

Saudi Media is said to have offices in Dubai, UAE and Saudi Arabia with their main content being for the Pan-Arab broadcasting market.

There might be a stumbling block to the success of the consortium’s bid though and that is the caution around accepting any bids from a politically sensitive party.

Chelsea wouldn’t want to experience a repeat of what is currently happening at the club due to the nationality of Roman Abrahmovich. The Russian has always had issues with the UK government and everyone at the club would want an assurance of stability if they are to make a sale.
