Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde was flattered by comparisons with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard
Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has made a fantastic start to the season with 6 goals in all competitions so far and his performances have earned him comparisons with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
In an interview with Infobae (h/t Liverpool Echo), the Uruguayan midfielder was asked what he thought of the comparisons, admitting that he admires the former Liverpool captain and that such comparisons are a confidence booster for any player.
“It’s spectacular to be compared to such a player, a star, a world idol, not just from Liverpool.
It’s spectacular, I can see his moves, of course I don’t say no, but a man always looks out for himself. It’s nice because it should serve as motivation for you to be compared to such a player.”
Liverpool have been a pretty good side under Jurgen Klopp in recent seasons, but have yet to fill the void left by Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool are speculated to be pushing hard for a top midfielder in next summer’s transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham a top target.
Valverde’s name is also mentioned in the list of candidates to revive the aging center and such interest has been concrete in the past with failed bids.
According to recent comparisons, a player of this quality would immediately raise the standard of the team and as a dynamic box-to-box player, it would be fair to say that Valverde would suit the team’s style of play.
It remains to be seen whether the latest comparisons would influence a potential move for the midfielder, as Real Madrid currently have no plans to sell their rising star.

Madrid have managed to change their midfield as the eras of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro come to an end and Valverde is a key cog in their rebuilding process.
Therefore, it would be difficult to lure him away from the Spanish capital and it would take serious measures to get him to switch sides. It will be an interesting summer window as Jurgen Klopp will push hard to land a top midfielder, with a number of targets already attracting attention.
