Highly Rated Arsenal Midfielder Set To Leave Club in January After Arteta’s Major Decision
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ‘irritated’ by his situation at the London club and will push for a move away from Arsenal in winter. England international was eager to leave Arsenal last summer in search of more regular first-team chances, with Everton eager to sign him.
Clear-the-air talks were held with the Spanish boss with Ainsley deciding to stay, having been told he would get more chances during the 2021-22 campaign.
Mikel Arteta has failed to deliver on that promise, however, with Maitland-Niles starting only two PL matches this campaign, playing a further six games from the bench.
The 24-year-old defender is frustrated with the Gunners with the overriding feeling Arsenal kept him ‘under false pretences’ in the summer. With only 18 months left on the English defender’s contract, the Gunners could finally be forced to cash in while they still can.
It stays to be seen whether Everton’s interest remains following the departure of their ex-director of football Marcel Brands. Newcastle United, however, are also monitoring the situation as they prepare for a big winter following their Saudi-led takeover.
Several footballers have been linked with mid-season moves away from the Gunners, with Elneny also said to be a target at St James’ Park. Lacazette could be another to leave while Balogun is likely to leave on loan. There is a feeling that the club kept the Englishman at the club in the summer under false pretences.
With that in mind the English footballer’s future is set to come under scrutiny again when the winter transfer window opens in three weeks’ time, with the footballer eager to play regularly.
