Joe Cole, Steve Sidwell and Lee Dixon spoke on the All To Play For podcast this week and the former raved about Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe.
The 21-year-old has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season. He has been directly involved in six goals in his last seven games in all competitions and he is one of the biggest reasons why the Gunners have been able to turn their season around.
Smith Rowe has been lauded for his ability to run with the ball. Jamie Carragher claimed not too long ago that the Arsenal number 10 is ‘as good as anyone in the league when he’s running with the ball,’ and Cole has now backed that opinion.
The Ex-Chelsea man labelled Smith Rowe as ‘incredible’ and ‘different class,’ while also claiming that he can play anywhere on the football pitch.
Asked about how good Smith Rowe has been this season, Cole said: “I think he’s incredible, I think he travels with the ball as good as anyone in the League.
“I like him off the left of a front three or as a ten. One of them two. I think Smith Rowe is one of them players, like Hudson-Odoi and Sancho, that he can play anywhere.
“I love the kid, I think he’s different class, I think he’s becoming the focal point of that (Arsenal) team.”
Gareth Southgate announced the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and Smith Rowe, despite his brilliant form in the Premier League this season, was left out.
That is a real shame considering how good he has been recently. At just 21 years of age, he is delivering on the big stage for a club like Arsenal, and to see some players who haven’t played as well as him make the cut must have been hard for him.
However, the Arsenal man should not be too disappointed. His time will definitely come, especially if he keeps performing in the Premier League as he has done since the start of this season.
