Hello and welcome to football.london’s live Arsenal blog on Saturday!
The Gunners are set for an extremely busy summer transfer window as manager Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad just 12 months after spending in excess of £150million on six first-team signings. Technical director Edu is keen to sign a defender, a central midfielder and at least one forward, football.london understands.
The Brazilian transfer chief has already brought in three players. American goalkeeper Matt Turner, Brazilian winger Marquinhos and most recently Portuguese creator Fabio Vieira, who was officially unveiled on Tuesday evening. Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus and fellow Brazilian Raphinha continue to be linked heavily with a move to north London.
With that in mind, sit back and let us keep you up to date with the latest from the Emirates Stadium.
Raphinha and Martinez talks ‘ongoing’
After agreeing a deal to sign Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal remain in talks for Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez according to the Daily Express.
Both are viewed as priority targets by Mikel Arteta, who is looking to bolster his squad with top-quality additions this summer.
Jesus to sign within the next 7-10 days
Gabriel Jesus is set to sign for Arsenal within the next 7-10 days, according to The Mail.
It follows various reports that suggest a verbal agreement with Manchester City has now been reached.
Mikel Arteta is keen to build the squad around the Manchester City forward and it looks increasingly likely that Jesus will be playing his football at the Emirates next season.
Marseille’s Saliba interest
According to Foot Mercato, Marseille have approached Arsenal over the possibility of signing William Saliba on a permanent deal.
Saliba experienced a very successful loan with the French side last time out, operating at right centre back.
But it’s well documented that Arsenal have no intention to sell, with manager Mikel Arteta planning to integrate french international into the first team for next season.
Spurs and Arsenal battle for Raphinha
According to Fabrizio Romano, both Arsenal and Tottenham are working hard to acquire the services of Raphinha from Leeds United.
It’s very well documented that Barcelona is the Brazillian’s ideal destination but the Spanish giants haven’t made any fresh bids.
With The Athletic reporting that Manchester City have agreed on a £45 million deal for midfielder Kalvin Phillips, it’s reported that Leeds will now demand a fee that is in the region of £65 million for Raphinha.
Gabriel Jesus deal ‘agreed’
Arsenal have reached a ‘verbal’ agreement with Manchester City to sign Gabriel Jesus in a deal said to be worth £45m, according to various reports.
Arsenal must now agree personal terms with the player, although this is not expected to be an issue.
