Vincenzo Italiano, the coach of Fiorentina, has highlighted what Lucas Torreira brings to the team since joining the Serie A club in the summer.
Despite winning La Liga with Diego Simeone’s side last season, he fell down the Arsenal pecking order under Mikel Arteta and was once again permitted to leave north London.
Upon his return, the Gunners signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Belgian side Anderlecht, while also keeping Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka, who had been linked with a move to Roma.
Torreira will join Fiorentina on loan until the end of the season, with the Italian club having the option to buy him if they decide to make the transfer permanent.
Torreira is no stranger to Serie A, having piqued Arsenal’s interest following a good time at Sampdoria in 2018.
However, it is not all doom and gloom for the Uruguayan, as based on what Italiano has said about his mentality, he is certain to play regularly this season.
When asked about Torreira, Italiano said at a news conference, “We are talking about a footballer [Torreira] who played at Atletico Madrid and Arsenal, has charisma and excellent intelligence.”
“He is desperate to have the ball at his feet, and he always makes up for his errors.” He strengthens our midfield, which already boasts skill and dynamism.
“I’m glad to have a guy with this personality; we need to be mentally strong. We must never surrender.”
Despite the fact that his time in England did not go as planned, Arsenal fans will continue to wish him well in the future.
