Arsenal’s outcast and almost forgotten player, Lucas Torreira is reportedly set to join Fiorentina on a permanent basis.
The Uruguayan is said to be in discussions with the Italian outfit about extending his stay past this season.
The Premier League ace’s father says the relationship between his son and the Serie A side is “excellent.
Are we going to see Lucas Torreira in Arsenal colours again? Well, the signs certainly seem to point to a ‘no’.
The Uruguayan has not played in the Premier League since July 2020, his last match coming in a debilitating 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Torreira, who struggled at Atletico Madrid last year after joining from Arsenal on loan, has been a man reborn at Fiorentina.
He has now made a name for himself at Sampdoria as an indomitable terrier who defends with passion and fury.
Fiorentina and Arsenal have already reached an agreement to sign the 25-year-old permanently for around £13M.
However, there are also rumours that Torreira’s move to Florence could be even cheaper than expected.
“We are not surprised by his form at Fiorentina because he is a boy who likes to play,” says Torreira’s father Riccard.
Although in some clubs he did not have minutes, this depends on the manager. Not all managers are the same.
“In the past, others have given him the opportunity to prove that he is an excellent player. That’s why he plays in Italy right now.
“He is very happy. He lives in a beautiful house, lives in the city.
“About buying Lucas; I want him to be happy in everything he does. If Fiorentina wants to buy him, it will be up to Lucas to decide.
“We support him in every decision he makes. It will always depend on the affection of the people, on his performances, on the opportunities that will be granted to him.”
“I repeat: it depends on the relationship between Fiorentina and Lucas, which at the moment is excellent.” He added.
