Arsenal have been urged to sign 26-year old Zenit St. Petersburg forward Sadar Azmoun.

The 26-year old is in the final year of his contract at Zenit and would be able to enter into pre-contract talks with other clubs in January if the status quo remains the same.

The Iran international was once referred to as Iran’s answer to Lionel Messi by journalists and was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Former Arsenal star Andriy Arshavin believes that Sardar Azmoun wants to leave Zenit St Petersburg and this is somewhat of a green light to Arsenal who have been linked with a move for the player.

According to Arshavin, Zenit cannot force the player to stay as he’s keen on moving elsewhere and the Iranian should be replaced by a foreigner but he can’t see a similar player in Russia.

A free transfer next summer could make a whole lot of sense from an Arsenal perspective as they would be looking to sell on some players and find replacements.

Sardar Azmoun continues to be strongly linked with Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon and if Arsenal’s interest is confirmed things could get a lot more interesting ahead of next summer.
