Arsenal could be set to make a shock bid for a former midfielder – and some fans are less than impressed at the news.
Dani Ceballos, who spent two seasons on loan at the Emirates between 2019 and 2021, is thought to be on the market this January after failing to make much of an impact back at parent club Real Madrid.
Spanish outlet El Nacional reports that the 25-year-old could therefore be set for a shock return to Arsenal.
Ceballos made 49 appearances for the Gunners, scoring twice in what was a mixed spell for the player.
The main reason why a move could be possible this winter is largely down to the African Cup of Nations, which are due to take place in January.
This will see some of Arsenal’s biggest stars, including Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, out of club action for as long as a month.
With this in mind, the hierarchy is understandably keen to try and recruit a midfielder to fill in for the absentees, who will also be able to stand in when injuries hit Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Given that the Real man would only come in as a squad player, it’s a move that seemingly makes sense for both parties.
However, some Arsenal fans will need a bit more convincing it seems – as the following tweets highlight.
While we suspect there are plenty of Arsenal fans who wouldn’t mind seeing the Spaniard back in the Premier League, the overwhelming verdict towards the news online was negative.
For the player himself, a move away from Real Madrid looks increasingly inevitable, as Ceballos hasn’t made a senior appearance for Carlo Ancelotti’s side all season.
If Arsenal does remain keen on signing him, a deal shouldn’t be too tricky to negotiate.
