Chelsea set to make key decision on wing-back situation as Thomas Tuchel reportedly says NO to Lucas Digne move

Chelsea are desperately in need of depth at both right wing-back and left wing-back following injuries to Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Left wing-back Ben Chilwell suffered a season ending ACL injury in November and Right wing-back Reece James has been ruled out for two months after suffering a hamstring injury at the tale end of 2021.

This current situation coupled with a few fitness issues at centre-back has made things more complex for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea could be looking to bring in a couple of players this January.

Lucas Digne was one of the names being mentioned as a potential replacement for the injured Ben Chilwell but Everton’s stance on wanting a permanent deal rather than a loan deal for the left-back has put Chelsea off and Thomas Tuchel has been reported as not being interested in the Frenchman.

According to multiple reports, Chelsea are now set to reopen talks with Lyon on recalling Italian left-back Emerson Palmieri from his loan deal at the club after the French club rejected Chelsea’s initial approach and Thomas Tuchel has been said to have given the nod to the Blues recalling the Italy international.

goal.com’s Nizaar Kinsella also reports that Chelsea could recall right-back Dujon Sterling from his loan deal at Blackpool as the Blues are set to make a decision on signing a right wing-back at the start of next week.
