Chelsea receive massive boost in Jules Kounde pursuit

Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are still pursuing Kounde and there’s a possibility of a move in January as Sevilla are now willing to drop their €80 million valuation.

Chelsea were close to signing the French defender from Sevilla in the summer but the deal fell through as both parties couldn’t agree on a fee with Sevilla holding out for the activation of the player’s full release clause which stood and still stands at €80 million.

Chelsea’s interest in the centre-back has not cooled off yet as Thomas Tuchel is looking to strengthen his defence line amidst the recent contract issues in the Chelsea squad.

Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva are all out of contract at the end of this season and Chelsea are still yet to agree a contract extension with any of these players.

Chelsea also sold Kurt Zouma in the summer to West Ham and have failed to make any signing to replace him and Jules Kounde is prime amongst the defenders Chelsea are looking to sign if they lose any of their current defenders next summer with the likes of Matthijs De Light, Niklas Sule, Atila Szalai amongst others all being linked.
