According to several reports emerging from the UK, Chelsea have contacted Everton about the potential availability of French left-back Lucas Digne in January.
The 28-year old has been linked with a move away from Everton this January and he’s actually odds on to leave the Merseyside club.
Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Leicester City, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in the Frenchman but it is Chelsea who currently lead the race according to several reports, particular the Sun. There are reported interests from outside England as well.
Chelsea would most likely be needing a left-back this winter following the uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Ben Chilwell who picked up an ACL injury last month.
Chilwell may require surgery in January and if that happens, the Englishman would be out until the end of the season, leaving Chelsea with only Marcos Alonso as a primary option at left wing-back which leaves them short in depth.
Highly rated Lucas Digne could fill in on a short-term deal for Ben Chilwell or even serve as a potential replacement for Marcos Alonso who is seemingly approaching the end of his Chelsea career.
This is one that could excite Chelsea fans as Digne brings proven premier league experience and no left-back in the premier league has earned a higher rating (7.16) than the France international since his arrival in the premier league in 2018/19 as per WhoScored.com.
