Chelsea handed £56m deadline day reminder by Arsenal that Marina Granovskaia cannot ignore

Transfer deadline day was quiet for Chelsea but across London at Arsenal, there was much work being done to ensure Mikel Arteta can fulfil his long-term vision

All was quiet at Stamford Bridge as the transfer window inched towards its conclusion. Chelsea’s business – barring the late addition of young striker Mason Burstow – was done. Although it never truly got going with Thomas Tuchel largely content with his first-team squad.

The Blues’ only genuine attempt to ‘sign’ a player last month came early; Tuchel wanted Emerson Palmieri brought back from his loan spell at Lyon to provide cover at left wing-back with Ben Chilwellset to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Chelsea did what they could and even offered the Ligue 1 side a rather humbling compensation fee of around £3million to reclaim the Italian international. But Lyon stood firm and that was very much that for the Blues in the transfer market.
