Chelsea have suffered a lot of injury woes this season. Influential players like Kanté, Kovacic, Chilwell, Christensen amongst others have all had spells on the sidelines this season, putting Chelsea’s title challenge through some shaky moments.
It was confirmed recently that Ben Chilwell is out for the rest of the season as he was required to have a surgery on his injured ACL, and as if that was not enough, Chilwell’s co wing-back Reece James got injured in Chelsea’s midweek premier league game against Brighton.
James pulled off in the first with what has now been confirmed to be a torn hamstring and as per latest reports, the Englishman would be out of action for at least two months leaving Chelsea short of options in another important department of their squad.
The latest injuries mean Chelsea would have to get very active in the January transfer window and Everton’s Lucas Digne is already a temporary replacement option for Chilwell with the Blues hoping to strike a loan deal for the French left-back.
Barcelona’s Sergiño Dest and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez have also been linked with Chelsea in the past few days.
According to Jacob Steinberg who writes for the Guardian, Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier is another player the Blues are keen on and they’re willing to enter the race for the former Tottenham man who is also admired by Newcastle.
Trippier is said to be keen on returning to England after a few years away at Spain and it’s just a matter of time before we know if Chelsea’s interest could play a pivotal role in finally bringing the Englishman home.
