Reports have emerged very recently, strongly linking Chelsea to the signing of 24-year old Torino defender Gielson Bremer with several media outlets claiming that a January transfer was imminent.
Claims of Bremer joining Chelsea in January has now been quashed though as Torino chief Urbano Cairo on Thursday issued a disclaimer regarding the club’s stance on selling the Brazilian in January.
In a quote obtained from Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, the club chief stated: “Absolutely not, I never thought of selling Bremer in January. Absolutely not. Gleison Bremer is one of our players. For the moment, I have not spoken to anyone: Bremer is ours, he remains with us for the whole of the campaign. We will see…”.
Chelsea are currently in the market for a centre-back in January amidst the current uncertainty regarding the contracts and future of some Chelsea defenders.
According to reports, Gielson Bremer has impressed Chelsea this season after the club had sent scouts to watch him but judging from Urbano Cairo’s recent comments, Chelsea might have to wait till next summer if they are to complete a deal for the defender.
Bremer would have just one year left on his Torino contract by next summer. Hence, he’s set to be available for a cheaper price.
