Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi seems to have convincingly taken his chances this season following injuries to some key players in attack.
Chelsea have been without the likes of Christian Pulisic, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in the games prior to the international break but the presence of 21-year old English star Callum Hudson-Odoi did not make the Blues’ faithful notice the absence of the trio.
Hudson-Odoi has been deployment more often in his favoured attacking position recently due to the absence of Chelsea’s prime attacking options and he’s had an impact in games at left wing-forward and right wing-forward.
The Chelsea academy graduate in just the few games he’s played has created the most chances for Chelsea in the premier league this season (19) and he also boasts of the highest key passes per 90 minutes (3.8) in the Chelsea squad this season and this presents a very interesting scenario for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea.
Hudson-Odoi’s recent stats show that he could well be the key to unlocking the beast in new signing Romelu Lukaku who has not gotten to his best yet in a Chelsea shirt.
Since joining Chelsea from Inter in a deal worth £97.5 million in August, Lukaku has just scored 4 goals in all competitions before his injury last month and the Belgian had gone six games without scoring and assisting at the time.
Lukaku’s form however cannot be traced to any fault of his as there’s been a struggle to establish a connection between him and the Chelsea attack.
Notably, the Blues have struggled to create chances for Lukaku this season and Hudson-Odoi’s staggering attacking stats could be the solution to that and this novel development somewhat coincides with Lukaku’s return to fitness. Hence, Tuchel’s Blues could be cooking some real stuff in attack pretty soon.
