Ben White was back at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
It was the first time the defender played against his former club following his £50m move to Arsenal in the most recent summer transfer window and it turned out to be a busy, yet decent, homecoming.
Partnering Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of the Gunners’ defence, White played a key role in ensuring his new club kept a clean sheet against his old club at the Amex Stadium.
That makes it three shutouts in four appearances for the duo that have cost Arsenal almost £80m in transfer fees in the past two summers.
“Yes, because they never played together, because Gabi is still struggling a little bit with the language, because they didn’t have any time to work together in pre-season either,” the Spaniard said. “But they’re getting a really good connection.
Good chemistry. I think their qualities match and complement each other really, really well and I think both of them today were terrific.”
After a difficult experience on his Arsenal debut against Brentford, it’s safe to say that White has bounced back and he was undoubtedly proud to keep another clean sheet.
Taking to social media after the Brighton draw, the 23-year-old delivered his verdict on the game with a simple three-word message.
