Bayern Munich star admits that they were ‘lucky’ against Barcelona

Leroy Sane admitted after Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win against Barcelona on Tuesday night that the Bavarians were lucky to win.

Barça went into the match at the Allianz Arena having not lost a single game this season. And they started the game on top, dominating most of the first 45 minutes where they created few chances without converting.

And Bayern, largely underpowered in the first half, capitalized on Barcelona’s sloppiness and scored twice past Marc-Andre and Stegen early in the second period to secure a vital win that sent them top of Group C.

Sane scored the second goal for the German champions after Lucas Hernandez headed them ahead. The former Manchester City ace has now spoken about the game and the result, saying there was an element of luck involved in his side’s victory.

The German winger also added that Barcelona have improved a lot since last season, when Bayern beat them with great ease.

“Barça are much better than last season and are playing good football now. We were lucky at the start, but that’s part of football. Luck was on our side and we’re happy to get the three points,” Sane said.

As well as the missed chances, Barcelona were also denied a penalty when Alphonso Davies brought down Ousmane Dembele. Bayern’s second goalscorer, Hernandez, admitted after the game that the Catalans should have had the first shot.

It was Barcelona’s first defeat of the new season and they will look to bounce back when they face Elche in La Liga this weekend.

Despite the defeat, reports suggest the Blaugrana are confident of their chances in the return leg against Bayern next month.
