Spanish giants Barcelona have been reported to be interested in Chelsea forward Timo Werner.
This is according to Spanish publication Marca who are reporting that La Blaugrana would want to take the German striker on loan in the January transfer window.
Timo Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2020 as one of Europe’s most coveted strikers but failed to live up to the hype in his first season in England. The Germany international struggled in front of goal but was able to rack up 15 assists in all competitions for the Blues and he formed a key part of their champions league winning team in May.
With just 12 goals to his credit in all competitions last season, Chelsea felt they couldn’t rely on Timo Werner for goals and they broke the bank to spend a whopping £97.5 million to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in the summer.
Thomas Tuchel had however tried to partner Werner and Lukaku up front a few times before the duo got injured last month but it is almost a certainty that Timo Werner isn’t Chelsea’s first choice striker anymore.
A loan move to Barcelona in January seems ideal for all parties involved because with several key players in attack injured for Barca, Werner could help fill the void in their absence and his credentials show that he’s got the potentials to be one of the best strikers in Europe.
