The Egyptian has been linked with a move to Galatasaray ever since last summer and was reported to be likely to leave in January after falling behind Thomas Partey, Sambi-Lokonga and Maitland-Niles in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order.

However, the midfielder’s father has now come out to state that Mikel Arteta has decided to keep his son at Arsenal till the end of the season.

“Arteta wants Mohamed to stay. He might need him in the coming period so he will remain until the end of the season.

I hope that he will end his career at Al Ahly,”

It rather seems ideal that Mohammed Elneny leaves in January as he’s currently in the final year of his current. Leaving in January could have helped Arsenal recoup some funds for the 29 year old but Arteta’s latest decision now means Arsenal would be losing Elneny for free next summer instead of cashing out on his current value which according to transfermarkt is worth around £9 million.

Also, Elneny’s departure in January could have helped Arsenal instantly look for a good replacement to fill the void which would be left by both Elneny and Thomas Partey who are set to go represent their countries, Egypt and Ghana respectively at the African Cup of Nations.
